New California Preventive Mental Health Coverage Puts ACEs Science Front and Center
“A mother, frantic with worry, brought her newborn in for a checkup at the pediatric clinic at San Francisco General Hospital. But there wasn’t anything wrong with the baby. And over the next several months, no amount of reassurance could convince the mom that her child was eating, sleeping and growing just fine. If anything, the mother’s worry led to behavior that raised alarm bells for her health care providers.”

Bay Area Walls: Liz Hernández’s Sources of Inspiration
We are so excited by SFMOMA's participation in Women’s History Month with its beautiful installation of Liz Hernández’s mural. Conjuro para la sanacion de nuestro future (which translates as “a spell for the healing of our future”) is an homage to her grandmother’s teachings and a prayer for community health. Her artistic prayer for community health is just what we need. We’re so thrilled the museum is opening back up and that art will continue to honor our legacies and inspire beauty. According to the California Children's Trust, there has been a 151% increase in CA in inpatient visits for suicide, suicidal ideation, and self-injury for children ages 10-14. The suicide rate among black children is twice that of white youth. It is critical that we remove diagnosis as a prerequisite for mental health treatment for children.
