Children’s & Women’s Health

Steinberg Institute

Since launching in 2015, the Steinberg Institute has generated billions of dollars for vital programs that directly impact the lives of California's most vulnerable. As California's only independent mental health and substance use advocacy organization, our work has led to thousands of homes for people experiencing homelessness with serious mental illness, a robust framework and implementation plan for the new 988 crisis line and strict rules requiring insurance companies to provide the same level of coverage for mental health treatment as physical health.

In 2023 we announced Vision 2030, our framework for the state of California to tackle some of our toughest challenges. Vision 2030 lays out ambitious goals to reduce homelessness, hospitalization and incarceration for people with behavioral health conditions and build a behavioral health workforce that meets the diverse needs of the state.

“Our victories are achieved by partnering with like-minded organizations and individuals and inspiring leadership on mental health and substance use policy. We're grateful for the support of the LSP Family Foundation, and inspired by Lisa Pritzker's commitment to advance health, equity and prosperity for all Californians.”
